Kid Icarus: Uprising to Support Lefty-Mode With Circle Pad Pro

By Dan Conlin, Staff Writer

The much anticipated upcoming Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS has just been revealed to offer a left-handed mode for anyone who also buys the Circle Pad Pro peripheral.

Normally, players would move Pit with the system’s built in circle pad while the stylus and touch screen would handle aiming and moving the camera . But if one elects to purchase the Circle Pad Pro, the controls can be reversed, allowing for the right circle pad (the one on the peripheral) to be used for player movement instead.

Essentially, it allows left-handed players to use their dominant hand for aiming and such.

While not sure how much demand there is for this kind of control scheme, at least the option’s there if you want it.

The game’s producer, Masahiro Sakurai, had already planned to use the Circle Pad Pro in some way for Uprising, but since he didn’t know the specs before Monster Hunter Tri-G (which came with the peripheral in Japan) was announced, he wasn’t able “to do anything big with it in the time we had,” as he said in an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine.

Sakurai actually didn’t feel the need to use the peripheral too much for Uprising, saying it "would end up being just the same as controls on other platforms and I think the quick aiming possible with the touch panel suits the game best."

Considering the PS Vita’s design, as well as the tendency for recent Nintendo titles to go for unique control schemes, it certainly comes as no surprise to hear.

Kid Icarus: Uprising drops on March 23, 2012.
