The soundtrack for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the upcoming highly anticipated RPG from 38 Studios and Big Huge Games, is set to release on the same day as the game itself.
This is great news for a couple of reasons.
First, it’s composed by game music veteran Grant Kirkhope, composer for such classics as GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark and Banjo Kazooie, as well as the more recent hit, Viva Piñata. Considering the bouncy and quirky melodies he’s used over the years, it’ll be interesting to see what he has come up with.
That’s always a huge plus in video games, and any who’ve played, for example, Dragon Quest VIII (the English version, anyway) will know that a full orchestra is something more games desperately need.
Kirkhope had this to say about the project:
Reckoning was a huge undertaking, as I knew from the start the scale of the game was going to be BIIIIIIIG!… There’s a good two and a half hours’ worth of full orchestral score in Reckoning ranging from huge boss fights to smaller ensemble pieces for dungeons and cities. I wanted the score to have a dark fairytale kind of feel that was full of magic and danger at every turn just like the game. The team here at Big Huge Games created such a beautiful looking world that it was such a pleasure to score!Again, the soundtrack for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be released the same day as the game. So come Feb. 7, 2012, make sure your wallet’s ready, because game soundtracks don’t get as much attention as they should, and if you can, please support this one.
