No Controller Needed with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13

The Kinect has been integrated into a good chunk of games so far, but real sports games have yet to fully incorporate it. Until now, that is.

Eric Busch, a game designer on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13, assured fans late last week that a controller will not be necessary to play the upcoming golf game.

On his blog he mentions how the swipe mechanic and voice commands will use the Kinect to avoid making you switch between using your hands and a controller.

Some of the body commands are actually a bit synonymous with what real golfers do.

For example, in real life you might squint and shield your eyes from the sun to look at something far away. In Tiger Woods 13, making that motion will zoom in and out of the landing area. Crouching down will give you a better look at the lie, and it will also make you look like the pro golfer you truly are (or want to be).

Other than the few commands that mimic what the pros do, the hand motions are still basic Kinect controls. Using your right hand to grab and drag an aiming marker may not be realistic, but who really wants that anyway?

Besides trying to golf without any weight in your hands, this is the closest you will get without going outdoors.

"[T]he length of backswing combined [with] the speed of the forward swing will determine the power." For those who need more of a challenge, there are harder settings which will read your form to determine hooks or slices.

If the Kinect plays as accurately as they say, true golfers will be pleased to know they will no longer have to worry about canceling their golf plans on a rainy day.
