Razer’s CEO Wants to See More Innovation and Risk-Taking

Out of all the companies that showed off their cutting-edge technology at CES this past week, there weren’t a whole lot of gaming-related announcements.

Fortunately, Razer came loaded with some slick gaming products, such as “Project Fiona,” and several lucky people got time with this beast personally. Mr. Dave Oshry, from Kotaku, was one of them.

Not only did Mr. Oshry have the opportunity to test Project Fiona behind the scenes, but he even got a private demonstration by Min-Liang Tan, the co-founder and CEO of Razer. What’s even more interesting is what the two discussed during their private meeting.

In the middle of the demo Tan asked Oshry, “Why is it that the giants of the PC industry have stopped innovating and taking risks?” A bit baffled by the question, Oshry replied, “I suppose they don’t think the risk is worth the reward.” That was enough to set Tan off on a little rant.
The PC giants have stopped innovating and we've been left carrying a very small flag. I'm sick and tired of it. I wish they would do something about it. I wish we could do something together. Even as these companies continue to shy away from what we do. I have their CEO's coming up to me and saying, "Man you guys have got some balls." We were just given 50 million dollars for research and development, so we're clearly not alone in our fight to bring innovation to this industry. People want to see us succeed. PC gamers are passionate. That's why they either love us or hate us. I mean, when was the last time a company was as passionate as us in this industry?! We don't say PC gaming is not dead simply because we've unveiled a handful of new products. We say PC gaming is not dead because as long as we're around, we'll keep it alive any way we can. This is what we're passionate about. This is what we do.
Razer creates great products, and Tan has no problem boasting their love for making the best PC gaming experience possible; realizing that change is good and necessary.

Razer’s dedication towards innovation and risk-taking is truly something many companies are too afraid of doing, and this is exactly why Razer will continue to get the support from the many PC gamers out there.

No CEO in the gaming industry could say it better, “This is what we’re passionate about. This is what we do.” Enough said.
