Well it may not be the brand new original title announcement we all may have been expecting next, but a hint at more Zelda goodness has been dropped.
It was recently reported by Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma in a Hyrule Historia post that a new ship may have already set course. “The voices of those who’ve played [Skyward Sword] from around the world reach us. We hear their admiration comments, and their criticism too. All those voices become energy for the next voyage. Well, to tell the truth, we’ve already set said in a new voyage.”
This being the very last paragraph in the posting, and with the comments being as vague as they are, any guesses as to what this means for future installments is purely speculation. Pure speculation is fun though, so let the conjecture fly!
The most obvious possibilities are either a new game for the Wii U, which is inevitable and has been hinted at previously, or a new title for the 3DS. If we’re opening up the possibility of a 3DS game, we could be looking at a brand new 3D follow-up to Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
Yet another possibility is a 3DS remake of one of the most polarizing entries in the franchise, Majora’s Mask. Ocarina of Time was fairly successful, and Link’s second N64 outing has enough of a cult following that there have been requests for a remake since Ocarina’s 3D debut.
But we want to hear from you. What do you want the next Zelda game to be? What do you not want it to be?
Wait, I’ve got it! My prediction is a full-on HD remake of Wand of Gamelon. Now I know you’re excited.

As a member of the cult of Majora's Mask, I vote that for 3DS, but I would never, EVER discourage making, y'know, an entire new title.
ReplyDeleteI second that vote for Majora's Mask. I have never had the means to play the earlier N64 Zelda's when I was a kid, but now that Ocarina of Time was re-released for the 3DS I finally was able to play it...even better, on a handheld. Similarly, I didn't get to play Majora's Mask, and I would certainly get it on the 3DS if it came out.
